Power shift gives players right to choose in Champions League Twenty20
IPL franchises for the super-rich Champions League Twenty20 tournament in October.
In a stunning shift in power, IPL teams no longer have first call on their international stars, as was suggested when guidelines were drawn up for the $US6 million ($7.44m) series.
Now a player such as David Warner, who is a member of Delhi and NSW - which have both qualified for the Champions League - can decide which side he represents. It was widely believed that IPL franchises would have the first pick of their players and then pay $US250,000 compensation to the player’s home state.
